The exam has four sections of equal weight: reasoning, general knowledge, elementary maths and English or Hindi. The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) holds one common exam to recruit Constable (General Duty) in BSF, CISF, CRPF, ITBP and SSB, Constable in the SSF, Rifleman (GD) in Assam Rifles and Sepoy in the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB). Most of these posts are in Pay Level 3 (₹21,700–69,100) plus allowances.
There is no interview. Check the current SSC notification for how the final merit is prepared.

These are the general standards; check all standards in the current notice. They are relaxed for certain regions and categories as per the notification. PET and PST carry no marks, but a candidate who does not clear them cannot move ahead.
For SSC GD 2026, the notification came out in December 2025, the CBE was held from 27 April to 30 May 2026 and the result was declared on 12 October 2026. The SSC GD 2027 notification has not been confirmed; check the latest SSC notice.

Candidates who have passed Class 10 from a recognised board and are 18 to 23 years old on the date fixed in the notification can apply. The CBE has 80 questions for 160 marks in 60 minutes, in four sections of 20 questions: reasoning, general knowledge, elementary maths, and English or Hindi. A right answer gets 2 marks and a wrong answer loses 0.25, so blind guessing hurts.
In general, men run 5 km in 24 minutes and women run 1.6 km in 8½ minutes. The race is qualifying only, but failing it ends the process. Standards are relaxed for certain regions as per the notification. At DMA, students train on the ground every day.
The general minimum height is 170 cm for men and 157 cm for women. Men need a chest of 80 cm with at least 5 cm expansion. Weight should suit height and age as per the medical standards. Relaxations apply for certain regions and categories as per the notification.
In most of the forces, an SSC GD constable is placed in Pay Level 3, which is ₹21,700–69,100 per month, plus allowances. The NCB Sepoy post is in a different pay level. The notification gives the exact pay for each post.
